Taconite Harbor ReunionTaconite Harbor Reunion

On August 4th, 2007 the Schroeder Area Historical Society hosted a reunion for people who lived and worked at Taconite Harbor in the early years the 50's, 60's and 70's. The Heritage Center was filled with folks who seemed more like a large family than a group of co-workers and neighbors.   More than 200 people traveled from Canada and thirteen states to attend the event which was planned to celebrate completion of the final phase of the Society's Taconite Harbor exhibit and the 50th anniversary of the power plant at Taconite Harbor in Schroeder. There was laughter and tears as people, reconnected after many years, shared stories and memories of their life and work at Taconite Harbor. The town-site of 24 homes may be gone but memories of those years remain strong today.

Reunion guests had the opportunity to visit with old friends, listen to the memoirs of the days at Taconite Harbor, and view the exhibit at the Cross River Heritage Center.  A highlight of the day was a tour through the Taconite Harbor Energy Center
